Located in the ‘foothills’ about 15 minutes from downtown Durango, this true luxury home is an ideal retreat for guests seeking all that Durango has to offer with the added privacy of nearly seven acres of Aspen and Ponderosa Pine forest, green grassy lawns, landscaped flower beds and multiple outdoor living spaces surrounding the home.

Wildlife sightings of deer, elk, black bear, turkey and birds of prey occur frequently due to the home’s proximity to the mountains and protected lands.  The water feature, which includes a stream connecting upper and lower ponds, also attracts smaller creatures and many species of birds to the home.

Outdoor enjoyment of the grounds is enhanced by a beautiful, covered seating area on the back deck overlooking the land with a peek at the La Plata Mountains, large patio area adjacent to the pond, a handsome, timber frame, gazebo-covered hot tub area, large, covered front porch, deck with gas grill, and large open areas of woods and lawn.  

Inside, finely crafted details are apparent throughout the home, with the hand-built great room addition as the focal point of the home’s interiors.  This large living room is a master work of timber frame construction, with exposed beams, timber cathedral ceiling and a large White Pine tree trunk in the center of the room acting as a both structural anchor point and visual centerpiece of the space.  Adding to the Rocky Mountain decor are a large rock fireplace, ‘Hemingway’ full-service wet bar, with a large dining table at one end of the room and on the opposite end is access to the main rear deck, a very popular and comfortable gathering place for summertime lounging after the day‘s activities.   

A hand-crafted spiral staircase leads from the great room to the media room/home theater, complete with large screen TV, Bose™ sound system and theater seating for movie time or watching the big game. 

Near the great room is a cozy den with the breakfast room and gourmet kitchen nearby.  Comfort is added to the den by a large wood stove and oversized seating and the breakfast room that includes dining table and chairs, plus bar stools for added kitchen counter dining and access to the deck with BBQ grill.  The Chef’s gourmet kitchen is complete with stainless steel double oven, gas range top, microwave, dishwasher, multiple sinks, large island and granite countertops, and a generous array of small appliances and cooking utensils.

Behind the kitchen is a fun game room complete with pool table, TV, wet bar and yet another seating area with stove/fireplace.  A powder room bath is also located on the main level, and custom slate, hardwood and carpeted floors compliment the entire home.

Two bedrooms are located on the ground level, including the master bedroom with king size bed, and large private bath.  Bedroom two on the main level includes a king bed and private bath suite.  The hot tub deck is accessible from both of these bedroom suites.

Stairs from the entry foyer lead to two more bedrooms on the upper level, with a queen bed in bedroom three, and the ‘bunk room’, with full/twin bunk beds and an additional queen bed.   A loft area and full bath compliments these two additional bedrooms. 

While the overnight limit is ten persons, this 5,010 square foot home is spacious enough to hold weddings and other events, with a beautiful backdrop of woods and mountains, plus multiple gathering areas and rooms.  Please contact us for details and fees to holding your event at this luxurious mountain location.

Three garage parking spaces are located immediately adjacent to the home, with more paved parking in front of the house for convenient load-in and gear setup.  The garage is suitable for passenger cars and small SUVs, motorcycles and bicycles, although it is not recommended for large SUVs and trucks.

The home is located just about five miles from the famous San Juan Scenic Skyway, including a section known as the Million Dollar Highway, which is an incredibly picturesque driving loop that connects Durango, Mancos, Mesa Verde National Park, Telluride, Ouray, Silverton and Purgatory Resort, as well as many fantastic trails for hiking, mountain biking, fly fishing and other Rocky Mountain adventures.

This home is located away from the county road access on a well-maintained gravel  private drive, providing a very private and quiet spot to return to after enjoying Durango-area activities.

Visitors can enjoy the shops, restaurants, galleries and the Durango Train within about a 15 minute drive, with summer mountain activities at Purgatory Resort a beautifully scenic, 44 minute drive to the north.

Excellent golf can be found at Dalton Ranch Golf Club, Hillcrest Community Club, and a top-rated public course at Pinion Hills in Farmington, NM (approximately 60 miles).

Motorcycle enthusiasts will encounter a short ride from the paved driveway over a well-maintained gravel lane and county road to completely paved roads and the paved San Juan Scenic Skyway, which offers a popular scenic drive for motorists of all kinds.  

Semi-fine dining is found very close by at one of the area’s hidden-gem restaurants, The Kennebec Cafe’.  Reservations recommended.
