This is the quintessential mountain log home retreat providing roomy comfort for many guests with four bedrooms, three baths, three decks, a large patio with hot tub, fire pit and expansive views of the valley below which is teaming with wildlife such as deer, elk, wild turkey, fox, and more.  A large living room with fireplace accesses two observation decks and is attached to a very large dining room, modern kitchen and more.  The spacious master suite includes private bath and access to one of the decks.

Visiting this home begins with a scenic drive from either Durango or Bayfield, Colorado, through scenic river valleys with postcard-quality views of Rocky Mountain foothills, pastures and river crossings.  Turning off the well-maintained, paved county roads onto smooth gravel roads places the traveler in sparsely settled, wooded ranch lands dotted with a few mountain homes on large acreage, providing privacy and separation from neighbors. 

The home itself is perched on a hilltop vantage point overlooking a large mountain meadow valley that is teaming with wildlife throughout all seasons.  It is common to see elk, deer, wild turkey, fox, many varieties of birds including hawks and eagles, and even the occasional black bear from the comfort of many outdoor and indoor vantage points.

Outside the home built of pine log and rock, there are numerous patios, porches, decks and balconies with outdoor seating and dining options both in the sun and shade.  There is even a screened-in porch on one of the main decks, perfect for morning coffee, reading or a most-relaxing nap.

Certainly, one focal point of the house is the large grand patio complete with roomy, well-maintained hot tub, comfortable outdoor furniture surrounding an easily lit, cozy gas fire pit and a shady covered area, all overlooking the valley below and mountains across the meadows.

Inside the home, you will find the large great room as a central gathering point for house guests, which includes a grand rock fireplace, views of surrounding lands, access to multiple decks and balconies, and even an open loft above overlooking the scene.

Adjacent to the living room, is a large dining room which comfortably seats ten, that also provides access to outdoor dining on one of the main decks.  Beyond the dining room, is a large chef’s gourmet kitchen with granite countertops, modern appliances and cookware, and breakfast room on the far end.

On the opposite end of the main level is the spacious master suite with king bed, sitting room, home office with desk for a computer, access to large deck with views, and private bath complete with large walk-in shower, dual vanities and ample dressing space.

The lower level includes three bedrooms, each with access to the grand patio and containing either a king size or queen size bed.  A large full bath with ‘jack-and-jill’ vanities on each end serves the bedrooms on the lower level and a Swedish Sauna room complements the bath area.  The laundry room with full size washer and dryer is also located on this level.

Concerning the home’s location, the drive to and from downtown Durango is about 20 minutes through the beautiful, picturesque Florida River Valley.  The Vallecito Lake Marina is about a 25 minute drive away with boat ramp, slips, boat rentals and more.  Purgatory Resort, north of Durango, is approximately a 45 minute drive away.  The town of Bayfield, Colorado is about a 25 minute drive and LePlatt’s Pond wedding and event center, a very popular for family and group events, is close by, near the town of Bayfield.

Please be aware that the driveway from the road to the home is well-maintained, but somewhat steep.  The driveway is accessible to all passenger cars in summer, but may require all-wheel-drive, or four-wheel-drive medium to high clearance vehicles in snowy, winter conditions, and is not recommended for motorcycle travel.  Please contact us with any questions regarding vehicle access.

They were great. They offered to put us up in a hotel when we couldn't get to the house (although with the number of people and amount of stuff we had it wasn't feasible). They were quick to respond to our issues. We had no water the last night/morning there and they came right out to address the issue.
