The peaceful setting and convenient location are just the beginning of amenities at this beautiful guest house on a gated, riverfront estate located in the Animas Valley, just ten minutes north of Durango, Colorado.  The three bedroom, two bath home has much to offer the traveler seeking the comfort, room, seclusion, mountain views plus easy access to Durango and the mountains to the North, including Purgatory Ski Resort.

The home is located on the beautiful, riverfront Two Bears Farm, one of the areas small, privately owned, organic, working farms.  Even though there is daily activity on the farm, privacy is evident, because the Guest House is free-standing and separate from farming activities.  Though it shares the land with the main home nearby, the patio area and most window views face the apple orchard, river and surrounding mountains.   River views can be seen from many windows and the grounds of the home, with frequent wildlife sightings including deer, elk, hawks, and other birds of prey.

At about 7,000 feet of elevation, along the banks of the Animas River, the home offers a more temperate climate and easier breathing than higher elevations just a short drive to the north, so visitors can enjoy high-altitude adventures and return to a more comfortable climate in the Animas Valley at day’s end.

Inside, comfort is found everywhere, from the large open living space on the main level to the generously equipped fitness room on the lower level that includes a pool table and satellite TV. Three bedrooms, each with queen size bed and flat screen TV, allow for privacy and comfort and multiple sitting areas area found in bedrooms and the living room. The kitchen and dining room are on the main level open the living room, providing an open, family-style living area. Two full baths compliment the home, with one located on each level.

Outdoor living space can be found on the East side of the home via a patio which faces the apple orchard and views of the rocky cliffs making a peaceful spot for morning coffee or a comfortable respite after the day’s activities.   Two parking spaces are located immediately in front just outside the front door of this home for easy load-in and gear setup, with an additional two parking spaces on the other side of the home.

Access to the bank of the Animas River is just a few feet away, on the property, where river raft, kayak and canoe put-in provides a private boat launch. River-goers can float or paddle through the Durango town section of the Animas River including easy calm waters and, further to the South, the whitewater of the Smelter Rapids.  Catch-and-release fishing is allowed and the stone steps to the waters edge, plus the riverside lawn with fire pit, are additional, beautiful outdoor spaces to be enjoyed right on the property.

The home is located just about two miles from the famous San Juan Scenic Skyway, including a section known as the million dollar highway, which is an incredibly picturesque driving loop that connects Durango, Mancos, Mesa Verde National Park, Telluride, Ouray, Silverton and Purgatory Resort.   There are many nearby fantastic trails for hiking, mountain biking, fly fishing and other Rocky Mountain adventures.

Dalton Ranch Golf Club, which includes pro shop, The Swing Restaurant, plus a swimming pool and tennis courts, is about a five minute drive from this home.  For tee times and other information, call 970-247-8774.
For the cycling enthusiast, the home is located on the main route of the Durango Valley Loop, a very popular road bike ride for locals and visitors which includes a scenic stop at Baker's Bridge, the famous spot where Butch and Sundance jumped into the Animas River to make their getaway in the now classic movie.

This home is located away from the county road access on a gated, paved driveway providing a very private and quiet spot to return to after enjoying Durango area activities.  As there are a few hiking trails just a few minutes from the home, outdoor adventures await, in some cases, with very little travel time to reach them.

Visitors can enjoy the shops, restaurants, galleries and the Durango Train within about a ten-minute drive, with skiing and summer mountain activities at Purgatory Resort a beautifully scenic, twenty-minute drive to the North.

Motorcycle enthusiasts will encounter completely paved roads and parking to and from the paved San Juan Scenic Byway, which offers a picturesque, Rocky Mountain drive for motorists of all kinds.  Serious road cyclists will find the paved highway north to Purgatory and Silverton to be challenging routes, and mountain bikers will find miles and miles of trails that allow bikes.  Please remember to share the trails with all trail users.

We absolutely enjoyed our stay at the two bears river guest house. It's such a beautiful house spacious, just great. People in Durango are super nice we where close to downtown and ski resort so that was cool. We absolutely recommend this house!!!!! P.s. We even got brownies from Susan and Marie owners of the house so nice of them and they where delicious !!
