With about a ten-minute drive to downtown Durango, this home in the wooded foothills just outside of town, offers the best of both quiet country living and the convenience of the city only a few minutes away.
A well-maintained, 1/2 mile winding gravel road leads to the private, hillside house with outdoor living spaces surrounding the home from which wildlife is frequently seen. The home is secluded and private, yet has expansive views of nearby woodland hills and the granite peaks of the La Plata Mountains to the West.
Inside, the four bedroom, three bath, Rocky Mountain styled home offers the comfort and conveniences of a modern dwelling while retaining mountain charm, with log and wood construction that includes hand-hewn pine posts and stair rails, plus pine cabinetry, ceilings and trim.
The bright, sunny living room is adjacent to a beautiful hot tub solarium on one side and on the other side is one of several decks, this one including a seating area and outdoor grill. Other outdoor space includes the main deck which extends across the entire front of the home, and a lower patio with rustic log-constructed porch swing.
Modern-meets-rustic in the kitchen, with contemporary appliances, granite countertops and pine cabinetry, plus a full complement of cookware and serving items to satisfy most every home chef. The dining room is adjacent to the kitchen and an oversized window seat adds more space for friends and family to gather. Just off the dining room, and outside on the front deck is a dining table and chair set; perfect for larger dinner settings or taking in the sunset.
Also on the main level is a bedroom and bath, with two more bedrooms and a bath on the upper level, and the fourth bedroom plus full bath and den is on the lower level of the home. The den includes a futon couch/bed conversion for extra sleeping space. One of the upper bedrooms has a private balcony with beautiful views plus a window nook bench seat.
The bed configuration includes a bedroom on the main level with king size bed, an upper level bedroom with king size bed, the 3rd bedroom also on the upper level with queen size bed, two bunk beds (four twins, total) and a toddler bed in the lower level bedroom, and a full-size futon sofa bed in the lower-level den.
This home is located in a rural neighborhood with very few homes and offers tremendous privacy due to the hillside, wooded setting. A few homes are visible in the far distance but there are no other homes or neighbors in the immediate vicinity of this peacefully secluded retreat.
PLEASE NOTE: Although the roads are well maintained, in winter months (October through April), It is NECESSARY that you have a 4x4 four-wheel-drive vehicle, vehicles with medium to high clearance and winter/snow tires to access this beautiful alpine, Rocky Mountain home. Roads are well-maintained, but the home is NOT accessible without the proper vehicle that is equipped with good all-weather or snow tires.
Transportation is easily obtained via your own means or one of several car and transportation companies in the Durango area, for getting to and from town with safety and convenience.

Hawks Nest is a beautiful, well equipped home, perfect for a large group. Plenty of room to gather as a group, or have some time to yourself. Loved the decks and hot tub.

We enjoyed our stay so much, loved the house and location. Very peaceful and wonderful view. We would love to come back! This was our first experience with Air B&B and it was perfect. Thank you Marie Suzanne and Hal. We hope to come back next year.

A deposit on 25% is due at booking and the balance is due 30 days prior to your arrival date. If you are booking inside of 30 days prior to arrival then the total amount is due at booking.

Consistent with most Colorado mountain resorts, the home does not offer air-conditioning. Home is equipped with either a ceiling fan, box fan and at least one opening window to assist with climate control.
In winter (November through April), It is Highly recommended that you have a four-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive vehicle, vehicles with medium to high clearance and winter/snow tires. Although the roads and driveway are well-maintained, they will be snow packed and slick.
Check in is at 4pm and check out is at 10am.
