Durango is a fantastic place to visit. There are things to do for the very active and those that just want to take it easy. Stroll around Historic Downtown to visit galleries and shops. Enjoy fine dining at one of the many outstanding restaurants. Hike or mountain bike one of our local trails then soak in the mineral springs at Trimble Hot Springs.
While visiting Durango there are many attractions and activities just a short drive away. The San Juan Skyway is a fantastic scenic byway loop that includes optional stops in Silverton, Ouray, Ridgway,Telluride, Rico, Mancos and more, and it can be driven in one day. It’s is considered to be one of the best day tours in the Rocky Mountains by car or motorcycle. For the more active folks, the Byway leads to many trails and back country roads for outdoor adventure pursuits.
Rurgatory Resort is a 25 minute drive from downtown Durango where winter and summer activities abound.
Mesa Verde National Park is a 40 minute drive away and offers a spectacular look into the lives of the Ancestral Pueblo peoples. The park protects over 4,000 known archeological sites, including 600 cliff dwellings. These sites are some of the most notable and best preserved in the United States.
Catch a ride on the Historic Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad train. Summer rides take you to the historic mining town of Silverton for a few hours of shopping and lunch. During winter months, the Train rolls though spectacular snow covered mountain scenery to the Cascade Creek turnaround where you can enjoy hot cocoa or hot cider beside a warm and cozy campfire.
To the east of Durango you will find the town of Pagosa Springs, where you can soak in the Pagosa Hot Springs, ski at Wolf Creek Ski Area and find more trails to explore in the San Juan National Forest during the summer.
