Please note: This home is connected to a larger home where the property owner resides. Guests will find privacy via a separate entrance with no shared areas in the home, and a locking separation partition between the two spaces.

This two bedroom, two bath home is an architect’s concept home, designed to take in the rare views looking north across the valley and to the San Juan Mountains, toward Purgatory Resort and further, towards Silverton, Colorado beyond the high passes on the incredible San Juan Skyway scenic drive.

A study in passive solar works (note the water-filled pipes in the ceiling in a few of the photos), the house is designed to be an energy efficient mountain abode.   This home is connected to a larger home where the property owner resides. Guests will find privacy via a separate entrance with no shared areas in the home, and a locking separation partition between the two spaces.

All rooms and outdoor spaces are on the ground level, with the two bedrooms separated by a long hallway and other interior spaces. The home is reminiscent of classic ranch-style homes, but with a contemporary architectural twist that adds character to the in-town dwelling.

Concerning the home’s location, Valley View Retreat provides as much privacy as possible for an in-town home.  Access is via paved city streets leading to a private, well-maintained gravel driveway, with two off-street parking spaces in front of the home.   This home is on its own private hilltop, and while there are other homes nearby, it feels like your own, private mountain escape when at the home.  It’s a great spot for enjoying both summer and winter activities in and around Durango.

From the rear patio, and across the Animas Valley to the west, is Animas City Mountain, one of Durango’s in-town mountain parks. This mountain and the trail system within the park, offers outdoor enthusiasts the opportunity to have a rigorous hike or mountain bike ride with substantial elevation gain, fantastic valley views, and the trailhead is about a five-minute drive from this home.

Much of the valley view below the home is designated wetlands and a protected wildlife habitat, where deer, elk, fox, bear and numerous large bird species are commonly seen throughout various seasons.
