More Details About This Home:

Constructed in 2020, with all new decor, furniture and appliances.  This mountain chic home is designed for comfort, with two bedrooms, two baths, sleeping up to six people. A covered patio overlooks the river valley below, and mountains in the distance.

Arrival at the home is via paved county road, only a few minutes from the town of  Bayfield, where conveniences like groceries ad gasoline can be purchased.  The entrance to the property is a short, well-maintained, sloping gravel driveway and flat parking area for multiple vehicles.  A separate parking area is large enough for a trailer for motorcycles, boat and other outdoor power toys.  A roomy back porch with picnic table, affords views of the natural surroundings.

Stepping into the home’s entrance, guests are greeted with mountain river style in the open living area.  The living room includes a large, Smart TV and the sofa is a queen size sleeper.  Immediately beyond the living room is the modern kitchen, with beautiful granite countertops, new appliances and casual counter dining for six people.

Also on this main, ground level, is the laundry room, with full-size washer and dryer, and there is a half bath, conveniently located off the living room.

Out back, beyond the kitchen, is a covered patio with outdoor grill and picnic table.  This  patio is on the edge of a hill, overlooking the Pine River Valley, and serves as a kind of ‘lookout’ with panoramic views, offering frequent wildlife sightings.

On the upper level of the home, are two bedrooms, each with king size bed.  A three-quarter bath with large shower serves the two bedrooms.

Access to the Pine River is by means of a short walk down a gently sloping hillside through pasture and woods.  The King Ditch, a large man-made canal, used for downstream agricultural irrigation, is traversed by a bridge over the waterway.  After crossing the bridge, guests are very near the river’s edge, where there is a long stretch of wooded meadow and mixed shoreline of grass and river rock.

This is a fantastic section of rocky mountain river, where the glorious sound of mountain waters may be a rapid roar, or a gentle cascade, depending on the seasonal water flow level.  Catch and release fishing is excellent in several spots along the river.  This is a perfect spot to hone one’s fly-fishing skills.  There are nice, flat areas for picnicking, lounging, short hikes in the river bottom and relaxing, outdoor fun.

This home is on a large private property.  The Pine River ‘Park Model’ home is on this same property several hundred feet away, and serves as a separate guest house, with its own parking and good privacy.  The Park Model can be rented, if available, to add sleeping for two more people.  Please keep in mind, that there is a possibility of occupancy by other guests, or by the home owner, at this cabin.

Concerning the home’s location, the drive to and from and the town of Bayfield is three minutes from this home. Downtown Durango is about 25 minutes, where guests will experience excellent restaurants, shopping, art galleries, and great gear for both the summer and winter mountain adventurer.  The famous Durango Train Depot and Museum are right downtown at the corner of Main Avenue and 5th Street.

The Vallecito Lake Marina is about a 23-minute drive, with boat ramp, slips, boat rentals and more.  Lemon Reservoir, a picturesque non-motorized mountain lake is less than a 30-minute drive, and is a great spot for canoeing, kayaking and more fishing options.

Purgatory Resort, Durango’s main ski resort, is approximately a 55 minute drive away.  LePlatt’s Pond wedding and event center, a very popular venue for family and group events, is minutes away, across the river from this property.

Mesa Verde National Park, a World Heritage Site, is about an hour drive, with downtown Durango between the Park and this cabin.

Cozy, comfortable, private and scenic are just a few of the words that accurately describe this modern mountain cabin at the river’s edge.

In winter (November through April), It is Highly recommended that you have a four-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive vehicle, vehicles with medium to high clearance and winter/snow tires. Although the roads and driveway are well-maintained, they will be snow packed and slick.

Please be aware that if we have a heavy snowfall, the highways and roads have to be plowed first so that emergency vehicles can get through then driveways will be done so your driveway may not be plowed first thing. They do not plow neighborhood roads or driveways unless we receive 5”-6” of snow.
